Semester reflection

Semester Reflection

What did you do this semester?

Orchestra Poster-

I designed a poster for Mr. Martin for the February orchestra concert. I started working on this when I first got it assigned in December before winter break. After I came back from winter break I picked it back up. Some challenges I faced was trying to figure out how I could incorporate the theme “fright night” to orchestra also trying to see where I could put all the information on the poster. I learned that sometimes you have to go and find some inspiration and then put your own twist with it. Some feedback I got was that they really liked the color scheme because it really gives off a “fright night” vibe. They really liked how I incorporated the head of a violin within it all. I changed the type and made sure that everything was centered. Even tough there was bumps in rode I really am proud of this project I got use my creativity and put my own twist on it. It was and overall really fun project and I rally liked the final result and seeing my poster hanging around the school was pretty cool.

Prom Poster-
The next project we did was that we had to design a poster for this year’s prom and the theme for this year was “A Touch of Jazz”. First we found out the color scheme the background information for choosing this year’s theme. We had to base off our ideas off of the information given. Some challenges were coming up with 30 different sketches for poster ideas, and basically finding where to start. I learned that sometimes you have to make icons that fit well with the theme. At first my poster was pretty plain and I didn’t really know what to do so they helped me come up with some good ideas based off with what I had. Overall I was satisfied with the final result and my color scheme and everything.

Company ß service project-
The next project consisted in choosing a service and making a company, I choose a photography company which was called all smiles, we had to first make a logo and choose a color palate for it. Next using the logo, we had to create a different variety of things for example, we had to do and advertisement poster, web ads, a billboard, magazine ad and that was the second part of the project. The third portion of this project was to create and infographic and a brochure was the next portion. The last portion of the project consisted in making a ticket or pass etc. and a merchandise item. This was one of our longest projects because there were many steps and things we had to make for it. Some challenges I faced I think was finding mockups good enough for each thing. I learned how to use Photoshop better when working with mockups. I ended up changing my color scheme along the way. Overall I really liked how I could make whatever I want within the whole project itself, I got to use my own creativity.

Kc Metro College Expo Logo-
All the juniors were assigned this project in where we had to remake their logo for them. Basically it is a college expo that is held every year here in kc. I started with a logo and then ended up with a totally different logo. My 1st logo I was iffy about it I couldn’t find the correct colors to use. Some feedback I got was to change the colors which I was struggling with but then I made some other logo ideas and kaboom, I messed with colors for it and I made a logo that actually got picked to be the new kc metro college expo logo which is pretty cool! This project was something different because we had little information about the company and basically we had to use our creativity and make something that you would visualize as their logo.

How did you use your time in class?
I used my time in class pretty well I would say because if I finished early or had extra time I would try to make it better than it already is and if I thought it was the best I can do then I would work on outside projects. Outside of class I try to find some projects that I could do for people either to make them a logo which most people asked or to make them a shirt for there group or club etc.

strengths-
I think my strengths are using my creativity wherever possible and using adobe illustrator I would say I’m almost a pro. I also work well with people and also helping people if they need help. I usually gave about 105% on all my projects I put my time and effort into them.
weaknesess-
I think I need improvement in using Photoshop other than mockups I could use some practice in this area also knowing where to start when starting new projects and when choosing fonts, I struggle sometimes.

summary-
I think what I loved most about this semester was getting to know everybody and becoming a team, I think what I would change was how I did some projects through the semester and some of the color schemes I used but other than hat I thought that this was a pretty successful semester. I learned a lot from Mackenzie she taught me a lot of things I didn’t know about illustrator and Photoshop. One goal is to learn how to use Photoshop other than just for mockups. I really enjoyed this year in general it was a hill but overall I had a good time.

Graphic Design Semester Reflection

This semester in graphic design we worked on many projects that involved many skills.

  Name Typography

This is Phase 1 we had to sketch out.
Our very first project was name typography in which, we had to use our name and come up with adjectives that describe us, and we could also use things we liked. Then we had to manipulate text to go along with the adjective. we had o use our knowledge from adobe illustrator to make this work. This project took about 2-3 weeks. We had different phases to end up with a final result. Some challenges I faced was trying to integrate the adjective into the text. I learned and I remembered many ways on how to use the tools I adobe illustrator. Feedback I as given was that they liked the way I manipulated some of the names and made them really feel like the adjective Also they helped me make some of my noms fit better with the adjective. I really liked this project, because you cold really make it feel like you

Hand type card

In this project we had to use a holiday or something you would see on a hallmark card and we had to use our hands and many sheets of paper and pens for typography to make this card come to life. The 1st phase was to make sketches of the different topics w water to use. And then we eliminated many sketches and had to choose one fine one and then had to move it over to an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper so that we could scan in the final result and bring it to life in Adobe illustrator and we had to use photoshop to so that we can edit the quality of the scanned image and then we had to use adobe to make the beautiful card. this Project took a couple of weeks. Some challenge was making it good enough on the paper the was gonna be scanned and bring so hard no to mess it up. I learned that working not to fast is good sometimes.  Some feedback was that they real like the way I wrote my type. I changed one of the types I used because it didn't really flow as we'll as I thought it would. My overall opinion was this was one o my top projects of the semester, I really enjoyed it especially because I love typography and written things in general.

Store

The last project we worked on this semester was a store and for this our teacher made s write down a number. a type of mineral, an animal and two letters and we had to use this to create a store and/or a company. The hardest part I guess was with coming up What kind of store and things you wanted to sell at it. I ended up making a beach shack. My mineral was marble and my animal was dolphin and my letters were b and c and my number was 7. This project was pretty long we had a lot of phases and things we had to do to make this project final. I learned how to make swatches in adobe and may more things. Feed bak was that they liked how I integrated some dolphin and marble together. I changed the outline of some my pieces. I liked this project because we had to use things that were given and make something fun.

- In class when I had free time I would work on outside project or date behance. If I finished early I would update bechance or I would try and make my project better than it was. what I did outside of class to improve my graphic design skills was that I reached out to people that needed help designing clothes or website or banners pretty much anything.
-My areas of strength I would say is coming up with ideas for my projects and typography I would say I  really enjoy it. Its fun and it something I do on a daily basis.
- what I need to improve on is on learning how too better use photoshop.
-What I loved about this semester is the different project we go to work on.
-I think I would change how many clients I did stuff of I could of made many things and helped out so many people. Overall I think I just keep getting better on using adobe photoshop.
- One goal for next semester is to b able to do more client work.
